In 2024, UNGC Network Egypt launched the 1st edition of its annual forum, themed
"Pathways to a Sustainable Africa"
As a vital link between the public and private sectors, the UN Global Compact Network Egypt launched its annual forum. This event brings together leaders from the private sector, government officials, sustainability advocates, UNGC participant companies, partners, and civil society to tackle key challenges and explore opportunities for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) both in Egypt, across Africa, and globally.
The UNGC Network Egypt Annual Forum not only promoted sustainability through discussions but also led by example. The event adhered to ISO 20121: Event Management Standards, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable event practices.
Held at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Cairo, the venue was chosen to minimize transportation emissions and ensure easy access for participants, reducing the carbon footprint of the event.
The forum emphasized waste reduction, generating no food waste despite hosting 600 attendees.
Sustainable materials were prioritized. Approximately 1035.9 m² of wood was used for branded elements and preserved for future use, while name tags were printed on paper and recycled post-event.
The event recorded a GHG emission intensity of 61.98 kg CO2e per attendee, significantly lower than the ICCA average, showcasing effective management of environmental impact.
The forum led by example and was aligned with the principles of ISO 20121: Event Sustainability
Management Systems, which provides a framework for minimizing the environmental impact of events.
By measuring the carbon footprint, the UNGCNE demonstrates its commitment to environmental responsibility and sets a benchmark for future sustainability efforts.
